Chessie/Choc Lab Mix keeps Eating my Sprinklers!!Advice?
She is 8 months old and basically has been eating my drip system. I know these dogs love water, but come on!!!!
I go outside and find the 1/4 " tubing chewed on and the emitters chewed out of the main line and even the bug spray emitter things (I don't know the appropriate names for these attachment things) that I have over a vegetable garden area they are all chewed up and spit out.
I constantly have to walk my yard and see if any of the staked lines are "pulled" out of their places. She also goes into our recycling and chews that stuff apart.
But, the dog bone is still in one piece. What the hell? How do you get the dog to stop chewing?
I've been told by a woman that trained dogs for decades that there really is no way to keep a dog from chewing as long as it can get to it.
If you catch her in the act, obviously you need to reprimand her. I don't think apple bitters would work here because the water would wash it right off.
Get her some tasty dog treats? Maybe one of those chew toys that you can fill with flavored pastes and peanut butter? If you make her chew toys more appealing than the watering system, then hopefully she'll stop. You might also want to get a kiddy pool for the yard, in case she just likes to chew on them while they're squirting water.
